Honorary Aldermen

Under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1972, the title of Honorary Alderman may be conferred on someone who has, "in the opinion of the Council, rendered eminent services to the Council" usually as a past Member. The title cannot be conferred on a serving Member.

Section 249 of the 1972 Act provides that a resolution to create an Honorary Alderman has to be passed by not less than two thirds of the Members voting thereon at a specially convened meeting of the Council.

The County Council has conferred the title of Honorary Alderman on the former Members of the Authority as shown in the attached document.
