Agenda for Full SACRE 25 November 2019

(Verbal discussion)

Minutes:

Alison Lloyd, School Advisor, informed the group that Paul Smalley, from Edge Hill University and a member of NATRE, would be attending the SACRE meeting on 25th November, along with around ten students. Paul Smalley had been emailed to ask if the students could prepare some questions to put to SACRE members for the upcoming November meeting. It was suggested that a twenty minute workshop take place at the meeting where the students would split into small groups with the members to discuss their questions and responses. One suggested task for the workshop was 'What was the schools' vision and purpose for RE.

The following items to be discussed at the SACRE meeting on 25th November were:

·  Election of Chair and Vice-Chair

·  What Makes a Good SACRE

(Paul Smalley, 10 Minute Talk)

·  Workshop

(20 Minutes)

·  Draft Annual Report

·  School Visits – Alison Lloyd to Receive Ofsted Data on Good Schools

·  Building Bridges Update

·  SACRE Newsletter

It was stated that it was important that there was a good turnout from members for the SACRE meeting on 25 November 2019. It was suggested an email be sent to SACRE members and ask them to inform officers if they would be attending. It would be good to get various faith sectors attending.

Reviewing the Draft Monitoring Report

(Alison to present report at meeting)

Minutes:

Regarding the Draft Annual Report, Alison Lloyd would email it to Misbah Mahmood, Senior Democratic Services Officer, to send to members before the next SACRE meeting, asking for their comments. Alison informed the Sub-group that she was waiting on Key Stage 4 data for the report from Paul Dyson-Knight, Secondary Team Leader. The Draft Annual Report would be sent out with the SACRE agenda for 25 November.

Looking at 'New Style' Ofsted Reports with a Focus on RE pdf icon PDF 305 KB

(Two reports from Beckfoot Thornton School and West Derby School attached)

Minutes:

Two sample Ofsted reports had been circulated with the agenda, one from Beckfort Thornton School in Bradford and one from West Derby School in Liverpool.

Alison explained that the new reports were a lot shorter and jargon free. They were mainly written for parents. All areas were not covered in the new style of Ofsted report. It was pointed out that the new Ofsted reports did not have to report against the Education Framework and this made them less helpful. It was difficult to develop an action plan against the Ofsted reports. Alison had been receiving a lot of queries on the reports hence it was crucial that new RE Lead Teachers could be recruited on 28th November.

Alison informed the Sub-group that she had written a report on the Ofsted inspections up to the end of October 2019. The report was distributed to the attendees at the SACRE QSS meeting. From this report Westwood Primary School in Bamber Bridge was selected for the SACRE to visit. Alison would email the Head Teacher at Bamber Bridge to enquire if it was possible to visit. If it was not possible to visit then Larkholme Primary School in Fleetwood would be approached. The purpose of the visit was to identify good practice and share this information with other schools. Members of the SACRE would be asked at the November meeting who would like to visit the school.
