Put a Pedestrian Crossing on Cadley Causeway

We, the undersigned, petition the county council to to install a much needed pedestrian crossing on Cadley Causeway, Preston. In the immediate vicinity are 3 schools, a park, a church and two lots of sheltered accommodation for pensioners as well bus stops on one of the main routes to the hospital.

Lancashire County Council has indicated that a crossing near the junction of Cadley Causeway and Mill Lane is under consideration but it is up against other roads in Lancashire.

We are signing this petition to show how strongly we believe that this road should have its pedestrian crossing funded when it is up for consideration in next year’s budget.

This ePetition ran from 27/07/2016 to 31/12/2016 and has now finished.

Council response

As the highway authority for Lancashire we have a finite budget for traffic related schemes and a responsibility to prioritise our resources that best serve the residents and road users in Lancashire. Our current priority is to target those resources at locations with a proven road safety issue which is determined by significant numbers of injury accidents, in addition to schemes that will contribute to the improvement of the wider highway network.

A potential pedestrian crossing for Cadley Causeway is currently being put forward for funding considering to be constructed in the 2017/2018 financial year.

All road safety and improvement schemes must go through ha prioritisation exercise to ensure that our limited funding is focussed on delivering schemes that meet the greatest need and has the greatest positive impact on the reduction of casualty rates. Therefore we are unable at this stage to confirm if funding will be secured.

Full details of all schemes that have successfully secured funding in 2017/18 will be published in the Capital Highways Programme in March 2017, which will be available from the county council's website.
