Council response

Thank you for your e-petition requesting the county council to control weeds on council owned land and highways in Skelmersdale, and the rest of the County.

Street weed spraying is undertaken as part of public realm agreements with district councils throughout the County. Other areas of county council owned land receive weed control on a reactive basis only. The extent of weed control will be prioritised alongside other highway matters. Issues concerning invasive, non-native species of weeds and other safety issues will take priority over aesthetics.

An exception is on new highway construction schemes, such as the Penwortham By Pass where weed control around areas of new planting will form part of the planned establishment phase. After which, it may then be on a reactive basis like with any other area.
