Create restrictions on Marine Road in Morecambe

We, the undersigned, petition the county council to 1.RESTRICT PARKING ON MARINE ROAD IN MORECAMBE 2.PROVIDE FACILITIES FOR VISITORS WITH MOTORHOMES WITHIN COUNCIL CARPARKS

PARKING ON THE PROMENADE ON MARINE ROAD FROM REGENT ROAD TO ELMS DRIVE, MORECAMBE

We appreciate that there are plans to amend the parking along Marine Road in the transport plans for Eden North. So, residents understand and accept that changes they are looking for now would only be temporary. There is no problem with ordinary cars being parked anywhere along Marine Road it’s other vehicles causing problems.

Both councils need to respect their clientele i.e. council tax payers who are the bread and butter of council funding throughout the year. Residents don’t feel this at the moment.

Residents pay very high prices for their properties thus very high council tax.

FOR RESIDENTS :
RESTRICTED PARKING WITH-
No high sided vehicles:
No motor homes (including disabled parking) :
No Articulated cab units. :
Coaches pick up and set down only.

FOR VISITORS——For too long visitors who want to come here, with their motorhomes, have largely been ignored and left to their own devices. Very few sites cater for them. They are unable to park overnight on council parks, no facilities anywhere.

Councils need to provide parking facilities as per coach park at Morrisons and Back Calton Street. This could be at a nominal charge on selected sites, and there are many, providing:
Single toilet : Free standing tap providing fresh water.

Possible sites- existing car park sites:
By Golf Club : Back Brighton Terrace :
By RNLI : The Exchange: The Battery

Council response

Thank you for your e-petition, hosted on our website, concerning ongoing problems residents have experienced with motorhomes parking and staying overnight along the promenade in Morecambe.

Issues of parking on Morecambe Promenade are currently under discussion, and some of the issues you raise here have already been identified. Creating Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) can be a costly and lengthy legal process, and the motor caravan ban requested here is beyond what we are equipped to provide as the local highway authority. Nevertheless, we are trying to balance these costs and have established a working group with partners including Morecambe Town Council, Lancaster City Council, the local BID group to actively explore solutions.

Unfortunately, there is no restriction we could deploy to ban high-sided vehicles. Articulated cab units suggests HGVs, which are very difficult as a class of vehicle to ban from parking, and would also add extensively to the costs described. We will however be raising the idea of a bus drop-off point with the working group.

We are very grateful for the suggestions you have raised through this petition, and the petition will be discussed at the next working group meeting, feeding in to the wider plans for Morecambe.

I hope this information is helpful.
