Two Lives Lost — No More: We Demand Safer Roads in Lytham

We, the undersigned, petition the county council to Petition: Improve Road Safety and Promote Active Travel in Lytham We, the undersigned, call on the local council, Lancashire Police, and other relevant authorities to urgently improve road safety in Lytham following two recent fatal collisions: May 3, 2025 – Station Road A man in his 80s tragically died after being struck by a Bentley Continental at around 7:22 AM. He sustained serious leg and chest injuries and sadly passed away in hospital. This incident happened just a short distance from North Warton Street, highlighting the dangers pedestrians face in the area. (Lancashire Police, Log 0324 of 3rd May) April 23, 2025 – Ballam Road, Lytham 29-year-old Thomas Pritchard, a kind and caring young man, lost his life after his Mini left the road and collided with a tree. He was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. This tragic crash, linked to suspected dangerous driving, underscores the urgent need for better road safety measures. Community Action: East Lytham Community Initiative (ELCI)
We also call for support and collaboration with the East Lytham Community Initiative (ELCI), a local grassroots group committed to improving safety, wellbeing, and education in our community.

ELCI is developing plans to educate our children about road safety and active travel through local community centres, offering:

Fun and engaging workshops on pedestrian and cycling safety

Family learning sessions on safe travel habits

Creative activities (posters, art projects, and campaigns) to help children become road safety ambassadors

Collaboration with local schools, youth groups, and parent organisations

By supporting ELCI’s efforts, we can foster a culture of safety and responsibility that extends from our streets into our homes and schools.
