Proposal to Charge for Membership of Trading Standards Safe Trader Scheme

The Trading Standards Service currently delivers the Safe Trader scheme, a membership scheme for home improvement businesses working in Lancashire which provides assurance to consumers that member businesses have signed up to a code of practice to deal fairly and honestly with customers and charge a reasonable price.  The scheme assists legitimate businesses by signposting consumers to them, by provision of promotional materials and marketing and by mediating where necessary in disputes. In order to enable continued delivery of the scheme it is proposed that a charge be introduced for membership.
