The Scrutiny Committee at its meeting on 11 November 2011 agreed to establish a task group on the issue of Flood Risk Management. The title subsequently changed to "Flooding Lower Alt" to reflect the focus of the task group's work.

A draft report was then presented to the Scrutiny Committee on 20 January 2012 whereupon it was resolved that the recommendations of the task group be endorsed and publicised. It was also agreed that the Environment Agency be invited to attend and speak at the Scrutiny Committee meeting scheduled for the 14 September 2012 to report on their progress in implementing the recommendations made to them.

On 14 September 2012, the Scrutiny Committee received a response to the task group report. Representatives from the Environment Agency (EA) and the County Council's Environment Directorate attended the meeting to present the response. The report was noted.
