Corporate Parenting Board - Thursday, 26th July, 2012 2.00 pm

Introductions and Apologies (10 mins)

To note attendees and any apologies for absence.

Icebreaker – getting to know each other.

Minutes:

Introductions were made round the room and it was noted that Kris would Chair this meeting, with support from County Councillor Winder.

Presented by representatives from the East Children in Care Council;

Liam led the Board through a presentation on healthy eating.

 

The Board undertook some group exercises regarding the balance of the various food groups and the challenge of providing food for ten people on a budget of £30 per day.

 

The Board in groups also recorded its ideas for advocating healthy eating and these ideas have been attached to these notes.

Kieron led the Board through a brief session on how best to communicate with young people.

 

The Board, in groups, discussed the various options and these have been recorded on the sheets attached to this.

Kris led the Board in a discussion regarding the involvement of children and young people in formal meetings such as: reviews and Corporate Parenting Board and the use of the 'Golden Rules'.

 

The Board noted down its suggestions which are attached to these notes.  The Board also welcomed the fact the Burnley Children's Trust Board are looking at the Golden Rules to see if they may be used as a way of communicating with Children and Young People.

Kris led the Board in considering what were hot topics for young people at the moment.

 

The Board felt the topics included interacting with Social Workers, County Councillors to visit Children in Care Council (CiCC) meetings, difficulties in reaching all Children in Care, transport to CiCC meetings, membership, structure and size of the CiCC.
