Honours

Local Presentations of Honours:

If a recipient of a National Honour does not wish to attend an Investiture at Buckingham Palace, then he or she can ask for the presentation to take place locally. The Lord-Lieutenant will present the medal on behalf of His Majesty The King.

The British Empire Medal (BEM):

The BEM rewards an achievement or contribution of service to the community in a local area and is presented at an Investiture held at the Shire Hall at Lancaster Castle by the Lord-Lieutenant on behalf of His Majesty The King.

The Elizabeth Cross:

The Elizabeth Cross and Memorial Scroll are granted to the Next of Kin of UK Armed Forces personnel who have died on operations or as a result of an act of terrorism in national recognition of their loss and sacrifice. Individual presentations are made to the next of kin either by the Lord-Lieutenant or a senior member of the Armed Forces.
